Netherlands Gold stamp Fibula of Dorestad 2025

In 1969, an 8.5 cm fibula was found in a well from the time of Dorestad, where Wijk bij Duurstede is now located. Designer Maud van Rossum chose this cloak pin from around 800 AD for her postage stamp sheet Fibula of Dorestad. PostNL released this stamp sheet on May 9 in response to the "National Archaeological Discoveries" theme chosen by the collaborating European postal companies for 2025.

The fibula is executed in gold, which naturally called for the issuance of a stamp with gold.
